Notice of Community Plus Queensland Incorporated Annual General Meeting 2020

Community Plus+ is pleased to give notice of our first-ever digital Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday 9 December from 6pm to 7pm. 

Invitations are sent to the community directly via email and include a link to register via ZOOM. RSVP is essential in order to attend as spaces are limited.

Get Online Week at Yeronga Community Centre

Learn something new at Yeronga Community Centre during Get Online Week 2020 (19-25 October)

Every week day during Get Online Week (19-25 October) we’ll be offering sessions to members of the community who need support with getting digital!

Let’s get digital, digital!

  • Set up your own Social Media account
  • Learn how to do online shopping
  • Find out how to complete an electronic form (bye, bye printers!)
  • Take a selfie with your dog
  • Learn which scams to avoid and how

Throughout the week you will also be able to come in and access a computer or printer here Yeronga Community Centre, or bring your own laptop and log in to the Wi-Fi.

Computer Access and Assistance will be divided into four half hour slots each day:

Computer access or Wi-Fi access with your own laptop will be from 10.30-11am and then 11-11.30am

Computer assistance will be from 11.30am-12pm and then 12-12.30pm

QLD Mental Health Week at the People’s Park, West End

Cranberry and Museli Slice

  • Prep Time: 10 mins     
  • Cook Time: 20 mins   
  • Total Time: 30 mins


2 tbsp margarine
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 ½ cups museli or oats with assorted nuts
1/3 cup dried cranberries
1/3 cup seeds (linseed, pepitas, sunflower seeds)
1/3 cup desiccated coconut
1/3 cup wholemeal flour
1 egg, beaten
4 tbsp reduced-fat milk
2 tsp cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Line a 20cm square baking tin with baking paper.
  3. Melt margarine, honey and vanilla essence in the microwave or in a small saucepan on a low heat. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
  4. Press into baking tray and bake for 20 minutes or until golden.
  5. Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.

Cauliflower Soup

  • Prep Time: 20 mins     
  • Cook Time: 30 mins   
  • Total Time: 50 mins


1/2 medium cauliflower
300 gm potato chopped
1 clove garlic
2 tsp vegie stock mixed with 750ml water
1 onion diced
1 tbsp oil
Pinch of Salt and pepper
Optional: Cream to serve


  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring, for 3 minutes or until onion has softened. Add cauliflower and potato. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes.
  2. Add stock. Season with pepper. Cover. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until potato is tender. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
  3. If you would like smooth, blend in batches with blender or stick blender. Return to pan over low heat.

Optional: Add cream to serve

Banana Caramel Dumplings

  • Prep Time: 15mins     
  • Cook Time: 15 mins   
  • Total Time: 30 mins


3/4 cup brown sugar
235gm or 2/3 cup golden syrup
500ml water
40g butter
1 tsp cinnamon

40gm butter
1 1/3 cup of SR Flour
90g golden syrup (extra)
1/4 cup milk
1 medium banana (mashed)


  1. Place brown sugar, golden syrup, water, cinnamon and 40 gm butter in a large saucepan, stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a simmer and simmer for 2 mins.
  2. Meanwhile place flour in a bowl, rub in 40gms butter with fingertips. Stir in extra golden syrup and milk and mashed banana.
  3. Drop level dessertspoons of dumpling into simmering sauce. Cook Covered for 15 mins or until dumplings are puffed and cooked.
  4. Serve dumplings with sauce. (ice cream is a great addition if you are being a little naughty)

Cheesy Taco Pasta

  • Prep Time: 5mins     
  • Cook Time: 20 mins   
  • Total Time: 25 mins


1 Tablespoon Oil
400 gm Pasta shells or spirals
500 gm beef mince
1 packet taco seasoning or see note (homemade seasoning)
3/4 cup water
1 jar of salsa
1 can kidney beans
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Packet of Corn Chips to serve
Sour Cream


  1. Cook the pasta according to the directions on the packet and drain.
  2. While pasta is cooking, heat oil on medium heat mince to the pan and brown well. Drain fat and add the taco seasoning, kidney beans and water, stir and simmer until water is absorbed.
  3. Add the pasta back into the pot and mix with the salsa and cheese.Stir to combine. Serve immediately.

Optional: Delicious served with Corn Chips, Avocado and Sour Cream.

Note: Homemade Taco Seasoning
1 tsp chilli powder
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Brown Lentil Dahl

  • Prep Time: 5mins     
  • Cook Time: 35 mins   
  • Total Time: 40 mins


2 tbsp oil
4 garlic cloves, finely minced
1.5 tbsp ginger, finely minced
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp curry powder
1/2 tsp tumeric powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
pinch of salt and pepper
1 can of lentils
1 can (400 ml) coconut milk
1 can  tomato, crushed
2 cups (500 ml) water
optional to serve greek yoghurt


  1. Place oil in large saucepan (3 litre) on medium heat. Add onions, garlic and ginger. cook until tinged golden and onion soft.
  2. Add spices and cook for 1-2mins.
  3. Place all other ingredients and stir well. bring to simmer , place on lid and simmer for 20 mins, stirring occasionally, to ensure it does not stick to bottom of pan.
  4. Remove lid and simmer for 10 mins to reduce sauce . (lentils should be soft and sauce thickened and creamy.
  5. Serve in bowl with greek yoghurt.

Mushroom and Potato Soup

  • Prep Time: 10mins     
  • Cook Time: 30 mins   
  • Total Time: 40 mins


2 tablespoons of oil
1 Brown onion
1 garlic clove
1 tsp dried thyme leaves
400 gm Potato peeled and chopped
250 gm mushrooms sliced
4 tsp of vegetable stock powder (bag 1) mixed with 4 cups of water
Optional Cream to serve
Salt and Pepper to taste


  1. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat add onion, garlic and thyme, cook, stirring for 5 minutes until onion is soft. Add potato and cook 5 minutes, until potato starts to soften.
  2. Add the mushrooms and stir over heat for 3-5 mins, add vegetable stock mixed with water, bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium and boil gently, stirring occasionally, for 7-10 minutes.
  3. Blend or mash to desired consistency. Return to heat and simmer until warmed through. (do not boil) Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Ladle into bowls if adding cream swirl in bowl before serving.
  5. Serve with crusty bread.

Tuscan Chicken with Beans

  • Prep Time: 15mins     
  • Cook Time: 45 mins   
  • Total Time: 60 mins


1/4 c. plain flour
1/4 tsp. each salt and pepper
4 chicken thighs
2 tsp. oil
1 medium onion sliced thin
2 carrots sliced thin
1 capsicum sliced thin
2 garlic cloves
1 can tomatoes
2 tsp of stock mixed with 2  cups water (bag 2)
1 can cannellini beans


  1. Heat oven to 180°c. In a bowl, combine flour with salt
    and pepper. (Bag no 1) Coat chicken in flour mixture. Heat oil in pan. Add
    chicken and brown. Remove chicken to a plate.
  2. Stir onion, capsicum and carrots in same pan you cooked the chicken. Cook, stirring, 4 minutes or until onions soften. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Stir in diced tomatoes. Top with chicken. Pour chicken stock over chicken. Bring liquid to a boil.
  3. Cover and cook in pan for 20 minutes. (you can place in the oven for this step if your pan is oven safe)
  4. Mash some of the beans and stir into pan. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes, or until chicken is ready.
