Community Plus+ is a members-based, not-for-profit organisation. At our Annual General Meeting, our members elect the Management Committee. The Committee are the governing body of Community Plus+. Community Plus+ employs seven Community Development Workers part-time.
The Community Development Workers are a self-organising team who co-ordinate and run the three centres – West End Community House, Annerley Community Hub and Yeronga Community Centre – with the support of the Management Committee. Each community centre has a local support group who inform their work in the local area.
Community Plus+ has a long and proud history of providing tenant advice and advocacy through the former Tenant Advice and Advocacy Service (TAASQ) program based at West End Community House. We joined with other community partners in a combined submission with Tenants Queensland, when the Palaszczuk government opened the newly funded and revised tenant advice and advocacy program for tender.
QSTARS (Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service) was officially launched in October 2015, and has responsibility for providing tenant advice and advocacy to tenants in the Brisbane local government areas south of the Brisbane River.
As a tier 2 partner, Community Plus+ provides advice and advocacy to tenants with a higher level of need, including representation at the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
The Community Plus+ QSTARS team:
• acknowledges home as a human right, working within a social justice framework
• respects the strengths, capacities and lived experience of local tenants
• works with tenants collaboratively to understand and enforce their tenancy rights
