What We Do

West End Community House provides a connection point for individuals, families, groups and organisations through:

* Community development education and training

The team at WECH is passionate about empowering and resourcing local community members with community work and community development knowledge and skills.

The house will be hosting, facilitating and promoting various training opportunities throughout the year. Please email westend@communityplus.org.au for more information.

* Volunteer Opportunities and Development

Volunteers are an important part of the fabric of West End Community House (WECH). Volunteering at WECH provides valuable support to the work we do and provides opportunities for volunteers to gain skills and experience.

Some of the volunteering opportunities offered with WECH include:

* Supporting Community Initiatives and Activities

The team at WECH actively support grassroots community initiatives that seek to build a stronger, more connected and more resilient community.  If you and/or your group are seeking support with starting a local project please feel free to contact us to see if we can help.

Some groups currently supported by WECH that meet at the house include a computer literacy group, community breakfast, and community art group. Further information on these and other activities can be found on our Program page.

* Community Events

West End Community House supports the development of local community celebrations and events. WECH has previously celebrated many events such as Harmony Day, International Women’s Day, DisabiliTea, International Day of Peace and Mental Health Week.

* Community Meeting Spaces

We have two low-cost community venues available for hire:

WECH Community Meeting Room – 4 Norfolk Road, South Brisbane
Located on the ground floor, the Community Meeting Room accommodates up to 25 people comfortably. There is a toilet, kitchenette, chairs, tables and a whiteboard.

West End Croquet Club – 91 Cordelia Street, South Brisbane
The hall accommodates up to 40 people. It is situated in historic Musgrave Park and has a magnificent lawn area with a gazebo in the back yard. 
The hall is suitable for functions, meeting spaces, gallery and display space, and community groups and services.  There is also parking for around 20 vehicles.

West End Kiosk – 155 Boundary Street, West End
The West End Kiosk is located near the People’s Park on Boundary Street (across from the big lizard), and is available to community groups who need to use a small space in a central location of West End.

* Community Information and Referral

Are you looking for information about support and services available within our local community?

West End Community House provides individuals, families and community groups within the Kurilpa Peninsula free and confidential support, information and referrals on a broad range of community issues. 

This service is available Monday to Thursday during open house hours (9:00am-1:00pm), or contact us on 3217 2333 from 9:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-3:30pm.

* Partnerships

West End Community House has a range of partnerships that aim to provide support and resources to disadvantaged community members. These currently include the following:

LawRight
West End Community House partners with LawRight’s Homeless Persons Legal Clinic (HPLC) to make legal services available to homeless persons and disadvantaged community members. The Clinic currently operates once fortnightly at the West End Kiosk, and deals with a wide range of legal issues. For information and bookings contact us on 3217 2333.

Centrelink
Centrelink Outreach Services provide individual centrelink support every Thursday morning at the Community Breakfast from 7:00am at West End Community House.

Anglicare
Anglicare Outreach Nursing Program provides community health checks and information and referral each Thursday morning at the Community Breakfast, from 7:00am at West End Community House.

OzHarvest & SecondBite
Weekly delivery of meat, fresh fruit, vegetables and bread for the WECH breakfast.

Jacobs
West End Community House partners with Jacobs (formerly SKM), a large engineering and consultancy group who have a corporate office in South Brisbane. This partnership provides resources, support and volunteers for West End Community House through the Jacobs staff team, and helps to provide local context and grounding to Jacobs staff members. Jacobs has been a strong supporter of the Breakfast Program for many years.
